Couples Counseling:

Methods of Assessment, Treatment, and Application 



This workshop will be conducted over the Zoom video call platform.  

Registrants will receive an email a few days before the workshop with a link to the Zoom meeting.


In our first ever virtual workshop, New Creation counselors John Jung and Nate Ellis will lead interactive discussions on The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, integrating their personal experience working with couples.  Participants will learn how to apply the main principles from these models, help couples effectively manage their conflict and power dynamics, and use homework tools to anchor treatment methods from sessions. 
Upon workshop completion participants will be able to: 
  • Define and understand the levels and components of the Sound Relationship House theory
  • Explain the main tenets, assumptions, and therapeutic components of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
  • Use homework tools to anchor treatment methods from session
  • Understand balance of power in relationships and manage those dynamics in session
  • Define and understand The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and apply their antidotes to help couples effectively manage conflict
  • Apply research of conflict between pursuers and withdrawers
If you are not getting CEUs for this workshop, the cost is $5.
If you would like 3 Continuing Education Units from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, the total cost of the workshop is $35.

Presenter: John Jung, LPCC-S

John served as the Director of New Creation from 1995 to 2017.  John formerly was the Executive Director of the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services, and had been manager of mental health services for the Montgomery Co. ADAMHS Board. John also gives consultation about pastoral care and counseling for Ginghamsburg Church. John has been in the field of mental health since 1973. John has been married to his wife Deb for 41 years, and they have two grown children.

Presenter: Nate Ellis, LPCC

Nate is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  He holds a Master of Arts of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Malone University.  Nate is trained in Prepare/Enrich, a marriage enrichment program, and is currently completing related training through The Gottman Institute.  In addition to couples counseling, Nate has special interests in treating mood disorders and trauma.  He is a member of the American Counseling Association.
